Maria graduated from the University of Malta in 2001 and after a two-year residency in Oral Surgery and Restorative dentistry, she worked at Glasgow Dental Hospital &School. During this time, she obtained her Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery (MFDS) from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow (RCPSG) in 2004.
At Glasgow Dental Hospital and School, she worked in all the Restorative Dental specialties, during which time she worked very closely with Dr Penny Hodge exclusively in periodontology, with whom she completed research which was presented at the International Association for Dental Research (IADR). She still has a very active role in the supervision of senior undergraduate students, where she facilitates tutorials and supervises clinical sessions in periodontics.
Maria also worked in general practice as an associate where she continued building on her passion to periodontology through a number of postgraduate courses. She has an extensive clinical experience in adult dentistry and has developed an enhanced knowledge and expertise in non-surgical treatment of patients with periodontal disease. Maria strives to provide individual care for her patients in a compassionate and relaxed environment. She has since completed a Masters in Restorative Dentistry at Warwick University in 2020, with the main focus being periodontology.
Outside of work, she is a busy mother of two children and adores travelling and the outdoors.
